What is FFA
FFA is a national
organization preparing youth for leadership and
careers in the science, business and technology of
agriculture. FFA has been an integral part of
agriculture programs in Idaho high schools since
1928, currently with about 10,000 Idaho agricultural
science & technology students, 92 active chartered
Idaho FFA chapters, and 4,000 Idaho FFA members.
There are 7,439 local FFA chapters with 507,763
members located throughout the United States, Puerto
Rico and the Virgin Islands.
FFA has provided a
formal structure for thousands of members over the
years to acquire leadership and public speaking
skills, and learn the importance of goal setting,
the value of hard work, honesty and community
service. The torch of leadership that FFA lights in
young people burns for a lifetime. Many of our
current leaders in education, business, agriculture
and government got their start in FFA.
Today’s high school
agriculture programs reflect the transformation that
has taken place in the agriculture industry. Courses
in agriscience, marketing, communications,
horticulture, computers, and management complement
instruction in agricultural production and
processing. Whether a student is planning on a
college education or going directly into the job
market, the training and experiences afforded
through agricultural education and the FFA give them
a valuable edge in today’s competitive environment.
